Brea Carlson, MS CCC-SLP, IBCLC
I provide lactation and infant feeding support, education, and assessment, and treatment in West-Central Indiana. I see patients in my clinic in West Lafayette, in their homes, and via telehealth. My aim is for my clients to feel confident as parents while we work together to meet their lactation and feeding goals.
I have been passionate about the health and well-being of women and adolescent girls since my college days, when I founded a non-profit for heart disease in women. When I was pregnant with my first child, I was fascinated by everything I read about lactation and breastfeeding.
Before that baby was born, I had thought about becoming a lactation consultant. After all the incredible support I received during my difficult pregnancies and challenging early breastfeeding experiences, I knew I wanted to give other new parents the kind of validation, encouragement, and comfort that I had. I trained as a postpartum doula and became a La Leche League Leader. I am retired from La Leche League and no longer practicing as a postpartum doula, but those experiences and philosophies are apparent in the kind of care I provide my clients.
After practicing as a lactation consultant for 5 years, I earned my masters in speech-language pathology. My intention was always to be able to provide a full spectrum of feeding therapy and support.
In addition to my private practice, I have worked in pediatric outpatient settings as well as in pediatric and adult acute care (including level 4 NICU, PICU, CVICU), and in a 100% telehealth setting.
I have teenaged two sons and in my free time I enjoy exercising, knitting, reading, hiking, acting in theater productions, Netflix binging, and listening to a ludicrous number of podcasts.
